It is possible to reach the locality in two ways. In one direction you go towards Pistoia and continue towards S. Baronto, along a beautiful panoramic road that offers glimpses of great effect on the cities of Pistoia and Prato. The path is indicated quite well.
The other road goes around Montalbano on the other side passing through Monsummano Terme and continuing towards Cerreto Guidi. This route also offers panoramic views of one of the typical Tuscan landscapes among olive groves, vineyards, rolling hills that change colour depending on the time of day.
In Vinci we recommend visiting the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci and the Leonardo Museum.
The Grotta del Vento is in the centre of Garfagnana, a mountainous area, at approx. 80 km from Casa d’Olival.
The Wind Cave – The Grotta del Vento presents an exceptional variety of aspects of underground karst ranging from stalactites and stalagmites to bright, ponds, streams, erosion, mud formations and even perfectly vertical wells that can be visited with comfortable paths.
Immersed in the green Tuscan countryside, the Montecatini Golf Club is approx. 15 Km from Casa d’Olival.
Montecatini Golf is an 18-hole course designed by architect A. Croze, who managed to perfectly integrate the hilly landscape with the game course, enhancing its beauty.
The player is faced with a definitely imaginative path, in which natural obstacles, such as lakes, streams, groves and ditches, are well integrated with the climbs and descents of the terrain.
These elements create fun and varied actions for the golfer, who due to the presence of many dog-leg must optimize the vision of his course in its entire development.
Respecting the general characteristics of the field, the greens are very fast and characterized by demanding slopes such as to test the ability of the players.
A nineteenth-century villa, restored to its original splendour with meticulous care and attention to every detail. Today it welcomes guests with inlaid wood floors, refurbished rooms, parquet flooring, new lighting, new colours that enhance the rooms and the mood, and all the comforts of a beautiful hotel. It is elegantly furnished, decorated with frescoes, surrounded by an age-old park, and has a unique thermal spa.
A tiny stretch of clear and perennial water placidly nestled along the ridge that separates the Tyrrhenian Sea from the Po Valley. It is Lake Scaffaiolo, among which many peculiarities, with its 1785 meters of altitude, there is also that of being the highest natural basin of the entire Apennine chain. This small body of water offers a breathtaking sight and can be reached on foot both in summer and in winter, walking with snowshoes.
Near the lake is the Duca degli Abruzzi refuge where you can taste typical mountain foods and stay overnight in the magical setting of the mountains.
This is the oldest mountain refuge in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines: it was inaugurated on June 30, 1887.
Unlike other lakes in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, Scaffaiolo lake is not a lake of glacial origin, but owes its origin to actions of chemical and physical alteration, with consequent weathering of the boulder, and to the action of snow and winds. It seems to be fed by rainwater, by the melting of snow and by a stratum located under Mount Cupolino (this fact explains the impermeability of the soil). The origin of its feed, considered mysterious and still discussed in past centuries, has been studied since 1700.
A series of truly unique features which, accompanied by the absolute lack of fish and plants, have created an aura of mystery and legend around this place.
